Dear Sir,
I am directed by my Committee to acknowledṛe
receipt of your letter of 27th. ultimo, submitting for the inform- ation and consideration of this Association letters from the Govern-
ment enclosing an Order-in-Council containing the draft of a Charter
to be passed for the creation of an Imperial Trust for the Encourage-
ment of Scientific and Industrial Research.
My Comittee have carefully considered the subject
and have pleasure in submitting to the Chamber a List under
separate headings of standard articles of Chinese Produce which,
prior to the war were largely exported to the Central Powers for
explotation and re-manufacture, and eventually resold in various
forma to practically the World's Markets.
This Association would be glad if your Chamber
would in its reply to the Government request that a copy of this
List be forwarded to the "Imperial Trust for the "Facouragement of
Scientific and Industrial Research", and if my Committee can be of
any further service in assisting in any way the furtherance of the
Trust's aims, which should undoubtedly result in procuring for
exporters of this colony a large share of the export trade formerly
carried on in these parts by representatives of the Central Powers
on a larṛe scale, they will be most happy to do so.
should it be desired a case or samples of the
products contained in the List can be made up and forwarded to London
for the use of the Imperial Trust.
I am, &c.,
(sd.) E. A. M. Williams,
Secretary.
